The fireworks stands across Wichita will be open on Sunday, June 27th, and sales will be allowed in the city through July 5th.

Wichita fire battalion chief Jose Ocadiz said fireworks can be used between 10 a.m. and midnight from the 27th through July 5th.   He said only fireworks purchased within the city limits can be used.  The city continues to prohibit fireworks that shoot higher than 6 feet and items that put out balls of fire.

People caught with illegal fireworks in the city can face a fine of $250 plus court costs.  Ocadiz said parents can be held responsible for their children, and property owners can be held responsible for illegal fireworks on their properties.

Some fireworks stands may have limited supplies.  Dealers have been reporting problems in getting fireworks because of issues in the supply chain resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ocadiz said the city will have ten enforcement teams, with one police officer and one firefighter each, that will be focusing on problem areas for July 3rd and 4th.

Other cities in Sedgwick County have their own times and regulations for fireworks sales and use.  More information is available on Sedgwick County’s web page at www.sedgwickcounty.org
