Health department issues update on splash park illnesses

Testing shows two cases of Shigella infection tied to Tanganyika Wildlife Park’s splash park are closely related, meaning they likely have a common source of infection.

A total of seven cases of Shigella infection have been identified at the Goddard park, but genetic testing was not able to be performed on the other five cases.

The Sedgwick County and Kansas health departments put together a new, more detailed survey for people who visited Tanganyika from May 29 to June 19. This survey is also for people who did not become sick, as part of an effort to find the source of the illness. The new survey is at https://tinyurl.com/kssplash. Even if you have completed an earlier survey, you are asked to complete this one as well.

Tanganyika’s splash park has remained closed since June 19. That’s when investigators found a link between several illnesses and the water park. An investigation into the water park and Shigella outbreak is ongoing.
