A homeless man will be sentenced on December 10th for killing a 72 year old Wichita woman.
57 year old John Darwin Pepper was convicted last week of first-degree murder and other charges in the death of Rita Golden in July of 2019. Golden was found dead in her home in the 2700 block of East 10th.
Police said that Golden would occasionally help Pepper by allowing him to stay in her backyard, provided him with food, and sometimes permit him to take naps in her home.
An autopsy determined that Golden died from a heart condition, but she also had injuries consistent with smothering and sexual assault.
