Investigators still looking for cause of north Wichita house fires

Investigators are still looking into the cause of a fire that spread from one home to another in Wichita’s North Riverside neighborhood, leaving both homes with extensive damage.

No one was hurt in the fires, which broke out around 3 a.m. Sunday in the 1800 block of North Payne.   Investigators said the fire started at 1836 North Payne and winds spread the flames to the neighboring home at 1834 North Payne.

The damage to the the first home at 1836 was estimated at $100,000 to the structure and $50,000 to the contents.  The second home at 1834 had estimated damage of $60,000 to the structure and $20,000 to the contents.

The Red Cross was called to help three adults, but fire officials said the fires displaced a total of ten people.
