Cowley County investigators and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation are looking into a fatal shooting that was reported Wednesday at the Cowley State Fishing Lake, east of Arkansas City.
The KBI said in a press release that a 911 caller reported a shooting just before 6 p.m. Wednesday. Deputies found 37-year-old Joel Leon-Santos of Arkansas City, who had several gunshot wounds. Deputies and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers provided medical assistance but Leon-Santos was pronounced dead at the scene.
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call the KBI at 1-800-KS-CRIME. The Winfield and Arkansas City police departments are helping with the investigation.
