A suspect involved in an armed robbery following a brief police chase that ended in a crash near 13th and Madison Wednesday morning.
Wichita Police responded to a report of an armed robbery that took place at Academy Sports in the 2700 block of N. Maize Rd. The suspect reportedly stole several items and produced a knife when approached by employees.
His vehicle was later located at a house in the 800 block of N. Grove. Officers witnessed the suspect bringing items into the house before leaving with a 28-year old man in a different vehicle. When officers attempted to stop the car, the vehicle sped off. The driver of the vehicle is not believed to have taken part in the robbery.
The driver then lost control on 13th St., struck a curb and then a building. He was caught by police while trying to flee on foot. The robbery suspect was also taken into custody. One Wichita Police officer suffered minor injuries during the on-foot pursuit.
Officers said the vehicle involved in the chase is believed to be a stolen rental car, but added that both suspects live in Wichita.
