South Wichita fight leads to shooting and crash

Police said an argument led to a shooting in a south Wichita neighborhood, then the gunman left in the victim’s car and crashed it.

Officers were called to the 1800 block of South Greenwood around 7 p.m., and found a 35-year-old man who had been shot in the leg. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police said the two men got into an argument and the gunman forced the victim into a car.  The victim struggled with the gunman and was able to escape and get back into the home on Greenwood.  The gunman left in the victim’s car and crashed it near 2nd and Topeka.   A 34-year-old man was taken into custody and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Both men were released from the hospital, and police took the suspect into custody for aggravated battery, aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping charges.

Police believe drugs were a factor in the disturbance.
