The Federal Emergency Management Agency said Friday that federal disaster assistance will be available to Kansas to help local recovery efforts for areas affected by severe storms and high winds.
President Biden has approved a major disaster declaration for Kansas for the historic storms that caused wind and wildfire damage on December 15th, 2021.
The counties included in the declaration include Barton, Sumner and Saline counties. In all, 53 counties are included in the declaration. Federal funding will be available on a cost-sharing basis to the state and eligible local governments and certain private non-profit organizations for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities.
The declaration was requested by Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, who noted the damage caused by wind gusts ranging from 60 to 100 miles an hour.
