One person dead after grass fire near Lake Afton

Crews were sent to an area near Lake Afton on Sunday to battle a grass fire and they discovered a vehicle on fire with one person dead.

The fire was reported around 10 a.m. in the 4300 block of South Cedar Lake Road, near MacArthur and 231st Street West.  Crews found four acres of grass on fire and then discovered a vehicle.   It’s believed the vehicle was doing “doughnuts” in a field, and the grass caught fire.  The flames then spread to the vehicle.

Wichita fire crews are working with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office on the investigation.   The name of the victim has not been released.
