Kansas Governor Laura Kelly visited Andover on Saturday to see the devastation caused by Friday’s EF-3 tornado.
The Governor visited the damaged Andover YMCA and other locations and said her administration will work with local officials to help the people affected by the storm. She met with local officials and talked with the families who suffered losses from the tornado. The governor had issued a state of disaster emergency on Friday evening to allow for state resources to help with response and recovery efforts.
Kansas Senate President Ty Masterson of Andover expressed appreciation for the people who are helping the community. He issued a statement saying “The extent of the damage is stunning and heartbreaking, and we are so thankful no lives were lost. As Andover recovers and rebuilds, we stand ready to assist those in need. Prayers continue.”
Kansas House member Susan Humphries also issued a statement: “To my friends and neighbors in Andover, we’ve suffered a sudden and devastating loss. My family and I offer our heartfelt prayers to those most directly affected by last night’s storm. We are with you and we will stand and work beside you. Our gratitude goes out to the agencies and individuals who work tirelessly to keep us safe and support our community.”
Kansas U.S. Senator Jerry Moran also visited Andover to meet with local officials and talk with the people affected by the tornado. In a post on social media, Moran said he is thankful that no lives were lost.
