Rumble strip work to begin Monday, May 23 in Butler, Cowley, Sedgwick counties

Rumble strips will be installed on shoulders at seven locations in Butler, Cowley and Sedgwick counties. The work is expected to start around Monday, May 23.

The Kansas Department of Transportation project is expected to be completed around June 10. The total length of the work is about 73 miles.

During the work, motorists can expect single lane closures, and they will be directed to drive at reduced speeds. In the Butler County work, traffic will be controlled by a pilot car, and motorists can expect delays of up to 15 minutes.

The seven locations, in this order:

  • In Cowley County, on U.S. 77 from the Oklahoma/Kansas state line to the south end of the Arkansas City River bridge just south of Arkansas City.
  • In Sedgwick County, on I-235, adjacent to new bridges over the K&O Railroad just northwest of the West Street interchange in southwest Wichita.
  • In Sedgwick County, on I-235, between the Meridian Street interchange and the I-135 interchange.
  • In Butler County, on K-196 from Old Highway 254 to mile marker 19.8.
  • In Butler County, on U.S. 77 from Northwest 40th to Northwest 110th.
  • In Butler County, on U.S. 77 from Northwest 130th to the Butler/Marion county line.
  • In Butler County, on southbound U.S. 54/77 from mile marker 251.1 to mile marker 243.8.
