Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Navy Veteran Hospital Corpsman Third Class Luisa Velez. Luisa has been on an emotional journey. She spent two deployments to Iraq in 2003 and 2004 and worked in military hospitals stabilizing and treating the most seriously wounded soldiers. She returned home with PTSD. Luisa said, “With my PTSD, it was an impossible task, being in that same rotation with sick and injured people just put me back into a loop. So I had to step back from that,” she said. Luisa now owns her own business in the beauty industry. For her contributions, her service and her accomplishments, Luisa was just awarded the keys to a brand new home for her and her son, thanks to Operation Finally Home, it was the 200th home donated by the non-profit.
