A man was killed during a confrontation with Topeka police early this morning.
Officers were first called around 12:40 a.m. to what is described as a violent domestic situation. A man reportedly broke into someone’s home then barricaded himself inside. The man eventually fled the home and got into a car. He was found at a nearby Kwik Shop. While at the gas station, the man reportedly pulled a knife and tried to steal another car with two women and a kid inside. Officers told the man to drop the knife, but he advanced toward them with the knife in hand. That’s when officers shot the man several times. He died at the scene.
The KBI is investigating the shooting and the five officers involved are on leave. The man who was killed was identified as 33-year-old Taylor Lowery of Topeka.
