Two men have been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting in north Wichita.
A 47-year-old man was arrested for first-degree murder, and a 30-year-old man was arrested for aggravated battery.
Wichita officers were called to a home on January 5, near 21st and Piatt. They found 43-year-old Mareo Dupree suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital for treatment but later passed away.
The 47-year-old suspect had also been shot in the upper body, and showed up at a hospital on his own while officers were investigating on Piatt. Police say this shooting stemmed from a fight over a drug debt between the 47-year-old and people in the home on Piatt. According to police, the 47-year drove by the house and fired into it, before gunfire was exchanged with the 30-year-old suspect.
The District Attorney’s Office will decide on charges in this case in the coming weeks.
