Sedgwick County Emergency Management is starting a new email and phone notification service, called Civic Ready Alerts.   It will provide notification of community events, health alerts or emergency situations.

The service is free and it’s available for the cities of Wichita and Mt. Hope.   Emergency Management Operations Officer Cody Charvat said other cities will be brought into the system in the coming months as staff members are trained in its operation.    He said people outside Wichita and Mt. Hope can still sign up if they want specific information for those cities.    At least 12 more cities are planning to join the system.

Charvat said the Health Department can notify people of boil water advisories, outbreaks or other health concerns, and 911 supervisors can issue notifications on emergencies. It will be important for people to enter the location in case an alert is issued for a specific neighborhood, rather than citywide.   People can also sign up for weather alerts through the program.

The service is free and people can sign up through the Sedgwick County web site or the City of Wichita web site.
