Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Vietnam Veteran and Purple Heart recipient Dennis Skirvin. Dennis, lost friends in the war, others survived but with physical and emotional injuries. He considers himself blessed to have made it home, to have married his high school sweetheart, start a family and enjoy a long career at DuPont. Now, Dennis is working on his skills as a writer. The result, a book called “The Short Timer: A Story of Love and War” that allows him to tell people what life was like for soldiers and those who loved them. Published in 2022, the book has climbed its way onto the 2022 Hemingway CIBAs Short List for the 20th Century Wartime Fiction award. Dennis has donated his book sales to a local veteran’s home, Warriors Helping Warriors. Congratulations on the success of your book Dennis and THANK YOU for your service.
