A Valley Center man has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that happened in north Wichita in February.

21-year-old Chase Faimon is charged with first degree murder, with an alternative charge of second degree murder, and leaving the scene of an accident.  Prosecutors can present an alternative charge if there are two or more theories on how the crime was committed.  The case will be presented to the jury and a defendant could be convicted on one or more of the alternative charges, but he can only be sentenced on the more severe charge.

Police said 48-year-old Kristine Sheffield was struck and killed by a man riding a dirt bike on the evening of February 20th.  She was crossing the street at 11th and Broadway at the time.    Faimon later turned himself in to police.

Faimon is also charged with misdemeanors of operating a motor vehicle without a proper license, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, and an expired tag or registration.

Attorneys are scheduled to talk about future court dates at a meeting on April 13th.
