The Arkansas River Trash Cleanup will be taking place on Saturday, May 6th. Volunteers will remove tons of litter, benefitting both the river and its various access points.
More than 36 tons of trash has been collected over the past 20 years of the event. This year, re-registration has attracted close to 1,000 volunteers. Pre-registration can be made via www.arkrivercleanup.org.
In-person registration begins at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, May 6, at 151 North Waco, the parking lot north of the Drury Hotel on the southwest corner of Waco and North 1st Streets.
Arkansas River Trash Cleanup funds will support expanded access and environmental work along the Arkansas River watershed in Wichita.
In order to participate:
- Pre-register via www.arkrivercleanup.org
- Register in-person to receive a free t-shirt, trash bags, gloves, and trash grabbers between 8:30 a.m. & 9:00 a.m. at First Street and Waco
- Wear sturdy shoes and clothes that can get muddy. Drinking water will be provided.
- Free transportation will be provided from the registration site to the river for the cleanup activities
- After the cleanup, starting at 11:30 am, a free lunch will be served including grilled burgers from Cargill, hot dogs, chips, and beverages
