Today, JJ’s Star Spangled Salute honors twice widowed, Civil War Veteran William Jackson Smart. Thanks to the example he set as a father, Father’s Day was eventually born. William raised 6 children by himself after his wife died, and it was the example of love and devotion that inspired his oldest child, daughter Sonora Smart Dodd to eventually bring the first Father’s Day to life in 1910, in Spokane Washington. Thank you Sonora for honoring your father and eventually all father’s and THANK YOU William for your service.
