The Drinking Water Advisory for Mayfield and Sumner County Rural Water Districts 1, 2, and 3 has been cancelled. The advisory that covered Wellington had been cancelled earlier.

The advisories were issued after a high level of a toxin related to an algae bloom was detected in the water supply. This was tied to an algae bloom in Wellington Lake.

Even though the advisories were lifted, Wellington is collecting weekly water samples to send to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to make sure the water remains safe. This will continue in October when he algae bloom season ends.
