Tonight, when you’re watching the Royals host the Pirates, keep an eye out for a familiar face on the pitchers mound. Garth Brooks will be throwing out the first pitch at tonight’s game, as he makes a stop in KC on his way to New Orleans.

Sports has been part of this week on Garth Brooks’ calendar for weeks – ever since it was announced that he’d be headlining Saturday’s first-ever Sugar Bowl Country Kickoff concert at New Orleans’ Ceasars Superdome to celebrate the start of college football season. Given his love of so many sports, though, why wouldn’t we expect him to add another to the mix before everyone starts tailgating! “Going to see the Royals play the Bucs,” Garth shared Monday while Inside Studio G on Facebook. It turns out he’s going to make a detour to Kansas City before heading to New Orleans…and get this – “We’re going to throw out the first pitch!”  Garth, as you may recall, has relationships with the Kansas City Royals and the Pittsburgh Pirates (affectionately called the Bucs by many) dating back to spring training stints with each in the early years of his Teammates for Kids Foundation. “Played for both those teams,” he notes. “And Kansas City – c’mon! That’s a second home for me.” Is the former collegiate javelin star’s arm warmed up and ready? “I haven’t thrown a baseball in like four years!” he admits with a laugh. “We’ll see! My arm might go halfway with it!”  Before heading toward the mound Tuesday evening, Garth will use his time at Kaufmann Stadium to take part in a press event that’ll be streamed live from the athletic complex that’s also home to the NFL champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Should be a special night for all in attendance and at home watching the game, and if we know Garth, he does everything well, so it should throw a strike with no problem.
