Today, JJ’s Star Spangled Salute honors Navy Veteran Michael White. Michael spent time in an Iranian prison on spying charges that turned out to be unfounded. While in that prison, he developed a friendship with Mahdi Vatankhah, a young Iranian political activist. Their bond grew quickly and when Mahdi was released, he risked is life to get information and letters to Michael’s family. It’s a kindness Michael didn’t forget and earlier this year, he successfully pushed for Mahdi’s admission to the United States saying, “He risked his life for me, he really did.”.
