Evergy is warning customers to watch for in-person scam attempts. Officials said they were notified of a recent attempt by someone posing as an Evergy employee, but the customer realized it was a scam and notified the utility.
There have been several reports of scam attempts like this since July. Evergy is reminding customers that an employee may knock on a customer’s door, but the company will never ask a resident or business to pay via a third-party app or a gift card. Evergy employees will also have proper identification.
Customers can also look to see if a visitor is driving an Evergy vehicle, and they can ask to see and ID or call the Customer Contact Center before providing any information. If you can’t verify that you’re talking with an Evergy employee, do not provide any information. The company also said that Evergy employees rarely need to enter a customer’s home.
Customers who receive a suspicious phone call or a suspicious visitor should contact Evergy directly and also report the case to local law enforcement.
