With a little help from technology, the Beatles release their last ‘new’ song. It’s called “Now And Then.” John recorded the vocal on tape in the 1970s. Paul, George and Ringo first worked on finishing this song in 1995. They hoped it would be part of the The Beatles Anthology project but the song was never finished. They ran into challenges trying to separate John’s vocal from the piano part. That prevented a quality mix.
A miracle happened when Peter Jackson and his team pioneered software that was used during the documentary “Get Back” and allowed them detach John’s vocal from his piano part. “Now And Then” has contributions from all four Beatles. As mentioned, George had recorded guitar parts previously in hopes they would have it on the anthology. Paul and Ring0 finished the recording. Yes, all FOUR Beatles are on the record. Amazing.
The video features new and old images layered together in a time capsule of sorts. The song is instantly familiar as a Beatles record. Watch the video below. It was directed by Peter Jackson. Song by John Lennon. Photo: KFDI Screenshot
