Former TV news reporter Lily Wu captured most of the votes in Tuesday’s general election to defeat incumbent Brandon Whipple in the Wichita mayor’s race.

The unofficial results had Wu with 35,859 votes while Whipple finished with 25,557.

Wu greeted supporters at her watch party on election night and said “Wichita, we did it together!  The voters of Wichita spoke loud and clear.”   She said voters worked hard to change leadership to make Wichita the best place to live, work and raise a family.  She thanked her family and friends for their support, and she thanked Whipple for his service and wished him and his family the best in the future.

Wu said she will work to make City Hall work for the people, and keep partisan politics out of City Hall.  She said her top priority will be to restore public safety, and she wants to work to fill over a hundred vacancies in the police department.   She also wants to have a renewed focus on economic development that will help everyone in the community.  With regard to rising inflation, Wu said she will keep Wichitans in mind when she makes decision on the budget, to make life affordable in Wichita.
