Wichita’s Exploration Place museum has brought back an annual holiday exhibit with a new feature added.

Arctic Adventure was opened Friday with indoor holiday galleries and a new outdoor installation called Whispering Woodlands.   The new display is an immersive sound and light environment that is most impactful at dusk.   It was created by TechArtICT, a group of local artists and engineers who work on innovative projects.   The display is supported by the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The entrance to Whispering Woodlands is a bridge that takes visitors into the Exploration Place picnic grove.  Sound will echo from 30 individual trees throughout the grove, and during the daytime hours, there will be an interactive audio experience.

Whispering Woodlands is open November 10th through January 7th.   Exploration Place will be open until 8 p.m. on November 16th and 30th, along with December 7th, 14th, the 21st through the 23rd, the 26th through the 30th, and on January 4th.

Admission to Exploration Place, which includes admission to Arctic Adventure and Whispering Woodlands, is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, $10 for youth and free for ages 2 and under.
