Senator Joe Manchin will not seek reelection next year. The West Virginia Democrat made the announcement Thursday and called it one of the toughest decisions of his life.
Manchin signaled, however, that he’s not leaving politics entirely, saying he plans to travel around the country to see if there’s an interest in “creating a movement to mobilize the middle and bring Americans together.”
The current front runner to replace him is GOP West Virginia Governor Jim Justice, which would give Republicans and Democrats an even power split in the Senate.
