A memorial service was held Wednesday morning for Sedgwick County Public Service Dog Bane, who was killed in the line of duty during an incident in southeast Wichita.

Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter said the loss of Bane is like losing part of the family.  He said Bane put service above self, and he will forever be etched in the hearts and minds of the officers and deputies who served alongside him.

The public is invited to stop by the Sedgwick County Extension Office at 21st and Ridge Road between noon and 2 p.m. to pay respects and honor Bane’s service to the community.

The Wichita Crime Commission has created a memorial fund in honor of PSD Bane, with proceeds going to the K-9 unit.  Donations can be made at the web site https://www.wichitacrimecommission.org

Bane was killed when he was sent into a storm drain near Pawnee and Rock Road on November 16th to help apprehend a domestic violence suspect.  A 24-year-old Wichita man has been charged in connection with that incident.
