A Wichita woman was sentenced to 16 years in prison for her role in the drug-related shooting deaths of two people in 2020.
A judge sentenced 31-year-old Jacquelynn Arthur to 192 months in prison. She had pleaded guilty in July of 2022 to second degree murder and robbery.
Prosecutors said Arthur, 35-year-old Michael Wilking and 36-year-old Joshua Halstead entered a home in south Wichita on December 29th 2020. They demanded money and drugs from Michael Reece, a resident at the home. Reece, 43, was later found dead from gunshot wounds in the 3900 block of West Fairhaven.
Wilking’s girlfriend, 22-year-old Kayla Schmidt, was wounded when Reece returned fire during a shootout. Wilking then shot and killed Reece. Schmidt died later at a hospital.
In March, a judge sentenced Wilking to 34 years in prison for the death of Reece, along with charges in a separate robbery from June, 2020 in which he pleaded guilty to kidnapping and aggravated burglary. The sentence also included time for a 2018 aggravated assault case.
Halstead has pleaded guilty to second degree murder and he is scheduled to be sentenced on January 4th.
