The Kansas Department for Children and Families is opening its energy bill assistance program on Monday, December 18th, two weeks earlier than previous years.

Kansans who need financial assistance to keep their heat on this winter can apply for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP).  The program will be open through the end of March.

DCF Secretary Laura Howard said the program helps Kansans restore or maintain their energy services, and that includes electricity, natural gas, propane and other home heating fuels.  She said DCF and partner energy companies will be available to help residents get information and submit their LIEAP applications.

There are in-person LIEAP events scheduled across the state, and you can see a listing at LIEAP Application – One-on-one Support – Economic & Employment Services (ks.gov)  Residents should have identification, proof of income for all adult household members and current utility bills.   Evergy, Kansas Gas Service, Atmos Energy, Black Hills Energy and Midwest Energy will have representatives at most events.

Applications are accepted online at www.dcf.ks.gov and then click “Apply for Services,” and they will be accepted through 5 p.m. March 29th.  Applicants must be at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty level.
