The first direct flight from Wichita to Washington, D.C. will take off Monday afternoon from Eisenhower National Airport.
American Airlines will have the first flight at 2:51 p.m. The direct service was announced last summer.
A gate celebration will be held for the first flight, and it will feature Kansas Senator Jerry Moran and Congressman Ron Estes, along with local business and community leaders.
Moran said the new service will help Wichita companies in securing federal work and it will make travel to Washington faster and more affordable for Kansans.
