Passengers who were on the Alaska Airlines jet that lost a door mid-flight are now suing Boeing. The plane’s left-side door flew off shortly after takeoff on January 5th, causing the cabin to depressurize and forcing an emergency landing.
A class-action lawsuit says the incident caused economic, physical and emotional pain for those on the flight.
Spirit Aerosystems, which makes the fuselage for the 737 MAX aircraft, has been working with Boeing on an investigation of the incident.
The FAA will increase oversight into Boeing’s production. Friday’s announcement comes just one day after the agency said it will investigate the aircraft manufacturer after the Alaska Airlines incident.
Boeing’s production line of the 737-9 MAX and its suppliers will be audited by the FAA. The agency said it’s exploring the use of an independent third party to oversee Boeing’s inspections and its quality system.
