West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin will not run for president following months of speculation he’d launch a third-party bid.
Manchin made the announcement Friday morning in a speech at West Virginia University.
The Democrat had appeared at events for the organization No Labels, which is overseeing a ballot access initiative for a potential independent bid in November. Manchin, who announced he would not seek another term for his Senate seat, had not ruled out a run for president until now.
During his speech Friday, Manchin heavily criticized the political process in Washington, claiming lawmakers are not interested in solving problems.
