Former President Donald Trump is being handed a serious blow in his civil fraud case. A New York judge on Friday ordered Trump and his companies to pay a penalty of more than 350-million dollars after the president was found liable of inflating his assets to get favorable loans from banks.
The judge banned Trump from doing business in New York for three years, and prohibited his sons from doing business in the state for two years.
Trump is expected to appeal the decision and will likely ask the court to pause restrictions on him and his sons while the appeals court considers the case. Trump has adamantly denied committing fraud and calls the lawsuit brought by the Democratic New York attorney general politically motivated. Trump confirmed he will be appealing the ruling that he called “a witch hunt.” He added the companies were on board with his business dealings and everyone made money.
New York State Attorney General Letitia James said the order is just. She said his sons are also guilty of fraud and she backed the judge’s decision banning the family from doing business in New York. The Democrat added that white collar crime is not a victimless crime. She thanked her team that tried this case.
