The Wichita Public Library will again have its annual showing of the short films nominated for Academy Awards.   The 38th Annual Academy Award Short Film Festival runs March 2nd through the 9th.   It will feature the films nominated in the live action, animation and documentary categories.

The Library released the times and locations for the showings:

  • March 2: All Day Screening @ Advanced Learning Library (711 W. 2nd St.), 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • March 3: Animation & Live Action @ Alford Branch Library (3447 S. Meridian), 1:15-4:45 p.m.
  • March 5: Animation & Live Action @ Advanced Learning Library (711 W. 2nd St.), 4:30-7:30 p.m.
  • March 7: Documentaries @ Advanced Learning Library (711 W. 2nd St.), 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
  • March 8: Documentaries @ Rockwell Branch Library (5939 E. 9th St.), 1-5 p.m.
  • March 9: All Day Screening @ Advanced Learning Library (711 W. 2nd St.), 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

The Festival has been a tradition since 1986, and Wichita was one of the first cities in the country to screen the Oscar-nominated short films outside of Los Angeles and New York.

To qualify as a short film for Academy Award consideration, films must be less than 40 minutes.  The films are not rated and may not be suitable for all audiences.

The Academy Awards will be televised on Sunday, March 10th.
