Kansas corrections officials are investigating the death of an inmate at the El Dorado Correctional Facility.
Officials said 39-year-old John Lewis Wardrup was found unresponsive in his cell on Monday, and medical treatment was unable to revive him. An autopsy will be conducted and an investigation will be completed by the Department of Corrections and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
Wardrup originally served an 88-month sentence for forgery and attempted rape, and he was on post-release supervision. He was back at the El Dorado facility for violating conditions of supervision, plus convictions in Sedgwick County for violating the Offender Registration Act.
