The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said it has arrested a former southeast Kansas sheriff’s deputy for sex crimes. The arrest is the result of a missing persons case investigated by the Hays Police Department.
KBI agents arrested 24-year-old Michael Tennyson of Iola on Friday at the Allen County Sheriff’s Office. He was arrested for aggravated indecent liberties with a child. The KBI said Tennyson had been hired in January as a deputy in Allen County, and his employment was terminated when the allegations became known.
On Friday, the Hays Police Department asked for help from the KBI in finding a 15-year-old runaway, who had been missing since March 22nd. Hays police believed the teenager was with Tennyson in Iola. The KBI said the Allen County Sheriff’s Office was notified and they found the juvenile at Tennyson’s home, then she was placed into protective custody.
KBI agents gathered additional evidence in the case and received assistance from Iola police, the Bourbon County Sheriff’s Office and the Ray County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office.
Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact the KBI at 1-800-KS-CRIME.
