A Wichita man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for trafficking fentanyl.

28-year-old Devonte Smith had pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.   Prosecutors said in April of 2023, Smith and another man traveled by plane to Arizona to buy fentanyl-laced pills that they intended to bring back to Kansas.  In his plea agreement, Smith admitted that he returned to Wichita and directed another man to return to Kansas with the pills.   Law enforcement officers seized more than 100,000 pills in a car driven by a second man, during a traffic stop in Pratt.   Charges against the other two men are pending.
