A fourth federal lawsuit has been filed over last year’s police raid on the Marion County Record newspaper.

The lawsuit was filed by Record publisher and editor Eric Meyer.   It contends that local officials violated Meyer’s constitutional rights during the raid last August, and he blames the death of his mother on the day following the raid on the actions of the defendants.

The lawsuit names the city of Marion,  former Marion police chief Gideon Cody, former mayor David Mayfield, acting police chief Zach Hudlin, the Marion County Board of Commissioners, sheriff Jeff Soyez and sheriff’s detective Aaron Christner.

Meyer is seeking more than $5 million and $4 million in punitive damages.

The other lawsuits over the raid have been filed by Record office manager Cheri Bentz, former reporter Deb Gruver, and current reporter Phyllis Zorn.
