Officials in the Hudson Valley say there are no reports of damage or injuries after a four-point-eight earthquake shook the region Friday morning.

Rockland County Executive Ed Day is asking residents to remain calm and exercise caution, as aftershocks are common. Westchester County Executive George Latimer says the county’s Emergency Operations Center will remain activated as a precaution, and updates will be provided as needed.

The epicenter was some 50-miles west of the city in Readington Township, New Jersey.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul said the teams are looking for any structural damage to subways, buildings, and other areas. There are no reports of injuries or damage. The earthquake was felt throughout the Northeast, all the way from Pennsylvania up to Boston. Hochul noted New Yorkers are not used to earthquakes, and she reminded people about the basics when a tremor hits. Officials said a 2.0 magnitude aftershock was felt five miles west of Bedminster, New Jersey.

New York City is watching for any aftershocks. Although experts say the possibility is low, Mayor Eric Adams warned residents to prepare. Adams noted earthquakes don’t happen everyday in his city, any many people are upset. He promised to provide constant updates throughout the day. He urged New Yorkers to go on with their day.
