Kansas transportation officials will have major highway closures this weekend on Interstate 135 in Wichita.
The first closure will be on southbound I-135 from the K-254 interchange south to just past the K-96 interchange.
The second closure will be northbound I-135 at the eastbound K-96 exit.
The closures will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and continue through 6 a.m. on Monday, April 8th.
For detours, motorists on southbound I-135 will need to exit at 11A to southbound I-235. For northbound I-135, motorists must exit to eastbound K-96. They can exit at Hillside, turn around under the bridge and then take westbound K-96 to northbound I-135 north.
Both northbound and southbound ramps of I-235 will be closed to prevent access to southbound I-135. The ramp from westbound K-96 to southbound I-135 will also be closed.
The project involves extensive reconstruction, including bridge removal, pavement removal, inlet reconstruction, re-striping and overhead sign installation.
There will be reduced speeds near the construction area and drivers should watch for construction workers.
