The City of Wichita said Friday that the city’s air quality has been impacted by smoke from range burning in the Flint Hills.
The city’s Air Quality Index was at 189, which is rated as “very unhealthy.”
Children and people with chronic illnesses are urged to limit their outdoor activities.
A burn ban is in effect for April to limit smoke during this time of year when farmers and ranchers begin burning pasture land as part of their conservation activities. This is part of the Flint Hills Smoke Management Plan developed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
