A Wichita man has been sentenced to more than 27 years in prison for a fatal shooting that happened almost two years ago.

A guilty plea was entered in March by 29-year-old Roger Gale, Jr to second degree murder, with an added stipulation that the state had enough facts to establish that the shooting was racially motivated.   The judge doubled Gale’s sentence from 165 months to 330 months in prison.

Gale entered the plea in the May 28th, 2022 shooting death of 30-year-old Emmanuel Hardy.   Police said Gale had been walking his dog outside an apartment complex near Harry and Oliver and he got into an argument with Hardy.   Police said shots were fired at Hardy and at a 39-year-old woman, and Hardy was hit several times.   He died later at a hospital.   Police reported that a racial slur was yelled by the gunman before the shots were fired.
