1. The most important political trial in American history got underway yesterday with opening statements in the hush money trial of former President Donald Trump. One of the biggest takeaways is that the prosecution claims to have hand written notes as evidence that will show the pattern of payments and behavior that led to the cover up.

2. This one has all of you talking. School district officials in Valley Center said Monday that the high school’s varsity baseball season has been suspended because of an investigation into animal cruelty by the team and coaches.

3. The fountain of youth may come in the form of a decades old drug that only costs a dollar a day under some insurance plans. Metformin, the popular drug prescribed for type-2 diabetes, could also protect against cancer, cognitive decline and heart disease thanks to its anti-inflammatory effects.

4. Construction of a new passenger rail system linking the Los Angeles area to Las Vegas began yesterday. The $12B Brightline West system, spanning 218 miles mostly along Interstate 15, is expected to be the nation’s first true high-speed intercity rail network, with all electric trains travelling up to 200 mph, on the 2-hour trip from Vegas to Rancho Cucamongo just outside L.A. . 30,000 travelers per day are expected to ride.

5. And staying with trains, to Germany where there will be no more “PDA” on the railway.  They are redesigning some of the their train railcars with frosted glass and other privacy features. Dubbed ‘knutsch-abteil’ (‘smooch cabins’) by one of Germany’s popular newspapers, these new cabins will start popping up on their high speed trains. 1 – no way are people just going to be smooching – hello – “mile high club” anyone, and 2. This could cause a lot of confusion when the conductor asks if you’d like your ticket punched.

and THAT’S TRENDING.
