Kansas corrections officials said a woman who was convicted in a Wichita murder case was found unresponsive in her living unit on Saturday at the Topeka Correctional Facility.

Staff found 36-year-old Asa Adams and began medical treatment, but she was pronounced dead.  An autopsy had been ordered to determine the cause of death.

The Department of Corrections and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation are looking into the death.

Adams was serving a life sentence for a first degree murder conviction out of Sedgwick County.  She was convicted in the 2007 death of her 20-month-old daughter, Shymir Turner.
