A former Spirit Aerosystems employee in Wichita said he was pressured to hide defects in Boeing airplane parts.

Santiago Paredes worked as an inspector at Spirit for over a decade. He said his higher ups would be upset when he found defects and would pressure him to stay silent. He claims his bosses “just wanted the product shipped out” and “weren’t focused on the consequences of shipping bad fuselages.”    Paredes told CBS News that he found hundreds of defects each day.

Paredes added that he wasn’t surprised when missing door bolts led to a door falling off an Alaska Airlines flight back in January. His comments come after two Boeing whistleblowers died unexpectedly in the past three months.

Spirit issued a statement to CBS in response to the report on Paredes:  “We encourage all Spirit employees with concerns to come forward, safe in knowing they will be protected.  We remain committed to addressing concerns and continuously improving workplace safety standards.”
