The Awesome comes from Detroit, Michigan today.  At a recent student-teacher basketball game, physical education teacher Alfred Kattola’s life changed. He started to feel unwell right before he collapsed on the gym floor.  In cardiac arrest, his heroes were sitting in the bleachers. Israel DuBose and Correy Coleman had just finished CPR education a couple months ago and didn’t hesitate to run to help Alfred. Israel began compressions while Correy ran to get the AED and correctly place the pads and use the device. Paramedics arrived promptly, and Alfred was rushed to a local hospital for further treatment. Miraculously, after what Alfred described as being “medically gone”, he returned to school the following week, thanks to the timely intervention of his students. To thank the girls for saving his life he said, “I don’t have too much to say other than I love you guys, what more can a teacher say?” Oh and before any of this, both girls already had plans to pursue medical careers in college.  Paying attention in class and using what they learned to save a life…..THAT’S AWESOME.
