Severe thunderstorms moved across south central Kansas Saturday evening, bringing damaging winds that brought down trees, tree limbs and power lines across the area.

A tornado warning was issued for Harper County shortly after 7 p.m. when radar indicated rotation, and a spotter reported a tornado southwest of Anthony with some damage reported.   A roof was reported to be gone from a home west of Anthony, with tree limbs and power lines down.   A brief tornado was reported in southeastern Barber County, and tree damage was seen in Hazelton.

A severe thunderstorm brought wind gusts of over 70 miles an hour to Wichita shortly after 8 p.m. with a 72 mile-an-hour gust at Eisenhower National Airport and a 78 mile-an-hour gust north of Goddard. The high winds brought down tree limbs and power lines across the city, and Evergy was reporting over 8,000 customers without power in the Wichita area by 9:30 p.m.

A tornado watch was issued for south central Kansas into southern Oklahoma until 11 p.m.  A separate watch was issued for northern Kansas until 1 a.m., including McPherson, Marion and Chase counties.
