An unidentified person was injured when a home exploded Saturday evening in Garden City.

Emergency crews were called to a home in the 800 block of West Fair Street shortly after 7 p.m.   They found a home with significant damage and a large debris field surrounding the home.   A victim was found and taken to a local hospital, and later flown by medical helicopter to a Wichita hospital.

Black Hills Energy sent a crew to the scene to shut off the gas supply in the affected area, and the City of Garden City Electric department was dispatched due to a downed power line. The City of Garden City Street department also responded to the scene for debris removal.

The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office is working with the Garden City Fire Department to investigate the cause of the explosion.
