Judge dismisses classified documents case against Trump

Former President Donald Trump speaks to the press before closing arguments at his civil fraud trial at State Supreme Court in New York on January 11^ 2024

Former President Trump’s classified documents case is being dismissed. Judge Aileen Cannon made the ruling Monday that the appointment of special counsel Jack Smith violated the Constitution.

Trump was accused by the Feds of taking classified documents from the White House after he left office and illegally storing them at his Mar-A-Lago estate in Florida.

Judge Cannon said it seems the Executive Branch’s growing comfort in appointing “regulatory” special counsels in the more recent era in this kind of situation has come with little judicial scrutiny.

Trump posted on social media, “As we move forward in Uniting our Nation after the horrific events on Saturday,” this dismissal should be “followed quickly by the dismissal of ALL the Witch Hunts.” His list of “witch hunts” includes his pending cases, and the New York hush-money case where he was found guilty.
